The Suffering of Jesus

We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you. Because by your holy cross and
resurrection, you have redeemed the world.
Were you ever betrayed by someone you trust? Did your friend ever deny knowing you several times? Did you ever carry a heavy load by yourself? Jesus experienced all of this. Judas, someone he trusted, told the solders where Jesus was for money. Peter denied knowing Jesus three times. Jesus carried a big, heavy, wooden cross and got nailed to it. Jesus Christ was also human, like us. So he didn't only suffer physically, but he also suffered internally. How would you feel if you find out your best friend was talking behind your back? I'm sure Jesus also felt that same sense of betrayal when Judas betrayed him. As teenagers, we would feel devastated when that happens to us, but Jesus just continued fulfilling his mission. The popular electronic song "Titanium" by David Guetta and Sia reminds us of Jesus.

[Sia:] You shout it out, But I can't hear a word you say I'm talking loud not saying much I'm criticized but all your bullets ricochet You shoot me down, but I get up [Chorus:] I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose Fire away, fire away Ricochet, you take your aim Fire away, fire away You shoot me down but I won't fall I am titanium You shoot me down but I won't fall I am titanium [Sia:] Cut me down But it's you who'll have further to fall Ghost town and haunted love Raise your voice, sticks and stones may break my bones I'm talking loud not saying much |

[Chorus:] I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose Fire away, fire away Ricochet, you take your aim Fire away, fire away You shoot me down but I won't fall I am titanium You shoot me down but I won't fall I am titanium I am titanium I am titanium [Sia:] Stone-hard, machine gun Firing at the ones who run Stone-hard as bulletproof glass [Chorus:] You shoot me down but I won't fall I am titanium You shoot me down but I won't fall I am titanium You shoot me down but I won't fall I am titanium You shoot me down but I won't fall I am titanium I am titanium |
The lyrics talk about someone who kept on getting "shot" but the
person never fell. Jesus was also "shot" with so many sufferings, but
he still continued to do his mission. The tone of the song was also triumphant,
just like Jesus was at the end.
_Jesus had to suffer for us because at his time, there were so many sins done already, and he had to take the punishment for us. He also had to go through all that mental and physical to teach us valuable lessons about life and God. We shouldn't take Jesus' efforts for granted and just waste our lives, or even worse, sin a lot. With this new found connection to Jesus, we hope to thank him for all that he has gone through for us.
Do we go through our own internal and external suffering every now and then?
When we do go through these, would we think of Jesus handling these situations? Would we do the same thing he would?
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for your big sacrifices for us. Your going through all that suffering to save us from our sins and to teach us very valuable things means a lot to us. Thank you for that too. Please also help us as we go through our own sufferings, may it be internal or external, because with your power, we can endure anything and can achieve anything.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom,
the power and the glory are yours.
Now and for ever.
Amen.
